Hey, I'm JR.
I've spent the last 15 years in landscape construction, but this work has been part of my life for much longer. I grew up around my family's landscaping company and built my experience from the ground up — on paver patios, water features, and complete outdoor transformations.
Over the past seven years, I've helped lead the business day to day, gaining a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship, planning, and communication it takes to deliver a project people are proud to live with.
Fernweh Outdoor is the next chapter of that experience: a more thoughtful, personal approach to landscape design and construction in the East Valley. My goal is not simply to build attractive outdoor spaces, but to create places that draw people outside, bring families together, and feel like a natural extension of the home.
I stay closely involved from the first design conversation through the final walkthrough, backed by an experienced team that takes pride in the details — honest guidance, clear communication, careful planning, and a commitment to doing the work the right way.

I didn't choose this trade so much as grow up inside it.
My dad started this business in Yuma in 1999, and by the time I was old enough to be useful on a job site, that's where my weekends went. I learned this work the way it's actually learned: on my knees setting pavers, waist-deep figuring out why a waterfall wasn't sounding right yet, watching my dad explain to a client why a shortcut now costs them twice as much later.
Fifteen years in the field and seven of them running the day-to-day taught me that the materials and the machinery are the easy part. The hard part — the part that actually matters — is doing right by the people whose backyard you're standing in.
Fernweh Outdoor is me taking everything that family business taught me and building something of my own with it in the East Valley. Same standards my dad held us to, same hands-on approach, a new market, and the chance to build the kind of client relationships and outdoor spaces I want to be known for — not just this year, but for as long as I do this work.
We're not building backyards to look good in a photo. We're building the space where your kids will actually remember the summer, where a Tuesday morning coffee gets enjoyed outside instead of rushed through at the kitchen counter, where friends stop leaving right after dinner because nobody wants to go back inside.
