Picture a Saturday in April. The dog's stretched out in the shade, the kids are playing barefoot, and you haven't touched a mower or a hose in months. No mud tracked through the house, no brown patches by June. Just a yard that looks good and actually gets used.
Artificial turf is supposed to end the mowing, the watering and the dead summer patches. A good install does that for years. A rushed one starts showing seams, dips and odor within a season or two. The turf we install
We install Turf Hub products. They're a premium line with a long track record in the industry, not one of the newer brands that showed up in the Valley in the last few years, and their products include cooling technology designed for Arizona sun.
We choose the product and infill for how the area will be used:
- Standard lawns. sand infill.
- Pet areas. pet-specific turf and infill, installed without weed barrier fabric, which traps urine and holds odor.
- Play areas. play-specific infill options for yards built around kids.
- High-traffic areas. products built to stand back up under daily use.
- Extra heat rejection. ZeoFill infill is available where keeping the surface cooler matters most.
We also build backyard putting greens, on the same compacted, well-draining base as the rest of our turf work, so the roll stays true and the surface stays flat.
A base built to drain
Turf only drains as well as the base under it. We build the base the same way we build it for pavers: layers of ABC (aggregate base course), compacted for stability and drainage. On top of that goes a 1-inch layer of 1/4-inch minus, compacted to spec, for a smooth finished surface. One inch is thin enough that water still passes through to the ABC below.
A common shortcut is building the entire base out of 5 to 6 inches of 1/4-inch minus. It's cheaper and it grades out nicely on install day, but that much fine material packs tight and doesn't let water through. The result is turf that stays wet, and in dog areas, turf that smells.

How we install
- Excavation and grading for the base depth and drainage the area needs.
- ABC base installed and compacted.
- Finish layer of 1 inch of 1/4-inch minus, compacted to spec.
- Turf layout with the grain facing your main viewpoint, usually the back patio or the house, and every piece running the same direction so the color reads evenly.
- Seams glued and nailed. Both, not one or the other.
- Edges secured around the full perimeter.
- Infill brushed in at the right amount for the product and the use.
The shortcuts we don't take
- Visible seams. Poorly matched grain and single-method seams show lines across the lawn. We glue and nail every seam and lay every piece in the same direction.
- Not enough infill. Skimping on infill leaves the blades flat and the backing exposed to the sun. We put in the amount the product calls for.
- Pet odor from poor drainage. A base that doesn't drain or weed fabric in a dog run holds urine. Our base drains through, and pet installs skip the fabric.

Our warranty
Every turf installation carries a 3-year workmanship warranty covering seams, edges and base settlement from our installation. It doesn't cover damage from pets digging or chewing, melting from reflected window glare or heat sources, vehicles, or normal infill top-offs. That's on top of Turf Hub's 15-year manufacturer warranty on the turf itself.
What affects the cost
Most turf installs start around $8 per square foot, and every project is quoted after a site visit. The main factors are the product and infill for your application, how much existing grass, rock or soil has to come out, the size and shape of the area, the base depth needed for drainage, and access to the yard.
